Best Ugly bagels are crispy on the outside, yet chewy on the inner, with an airy texture. They are simmered in honey water before baking which adds a hint of sweetness to them.
The bagels come in 4 varieties: Sesame, Poppy, Plain and Gluten Free. The Best Ugly process is very labour intensive and a ‘whole lotta love’ goes into each and every bagel. They are hand rolled, boiled and then tended in a manuka-fired oven, until they are just right.
Sesame accounts for 80% of production. The seeds coating the bagel release sesame oil which keeps the bagels moist throughout the cooking process ensuring they are soft to the bite. Sesame bagels eat great with both sweet and savoury toppings. The Plain and Poppy varieties have a slightly firmer crust, which adds a bit of chew to the texture.
Best Ugly bagels are distributed by Loaf Handcrafted Breads daily throughout the greater Auckland region.
